A GREEK BRONZE HANDLE ATTACHMENT
SOUTH ITALIAN, ARCHAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 530-500 B.C.
Preserving the upper element of the vertical grip, terminating in the head of a lion, his well-detailed face framed by a radiating mane, with incised overlapping locks behind the rounded ears, originally flanked by two smaller lions projecting to either side, one preserved, depicted reclining, the mane similarly detailed, with the forepaws curving to the right, the underside originally fitted on to the vessel rim and secured by a rivet through the paws
2 7/8 in. (7.3 cm.) long
