Lot Essay

He studied under his father Jan Styka, and although from a Polish background, was a naturalised Frenchman. He studied at L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1908-1912. So impressed by the light on his travels to North Africa, he painted almost exclusively Orientalist subjects.
