The can with an ear-shaped handle with gilt foliage and pendant husks, the body decorated with bold gilt-edged green foliage scrolls against slender looping and pendant floral garlands, the saucer with a central rose enclosed by four gilt-edged green foliage scrolls, within similar gilt-edged green foliage scrolls against slender garlands around the border, each with green band borders between gilt lines and dot ornament and gilt dentil rims (cup with areas of very slight wear to gilding, saucer with areas of wear, gilding of central green scrolls probably refreshed)

Lot Essay

Edmé-François Bouillat (père) was a painter of flowers and birds at Sèvres from 1758 to 1810. Étienne-Henry Le Guay (l'aîné, later père), was a painter and then occasionally a gilder from 1748 to 1749 and from 1751 to 1796 (see lot 372). Jean Chauvaux (le jeune or cadet) was a gilder and painter of patterns from 1764 to 1800.
