1776, BLUE INTERLACED LS ENCLOSING DATE LETTER y, PAINTER'S MARK FOR BARRAT, GILDER'S MARK FOR BOULANGER, CAN WITH AN INCISED CROSS POTENT
The can with an ear-shaped handle with gilt foliage and pendant husks, the front painted with a garland of flowers around a basket of flowers hung from a pink bow, within an oval gilt ciselé ribbon-tied cartouche, the bleu nouveau ground with a shaped gilt border of trellis and scale ornament panels enclosed by scrolling foliage, the saucer with a garland about a central bouquet within a similar circular gilt cartouche, ground and border, gilt band rims (minute wear to gilding, saucer with minute rim chip and minute scratches to centre)

The underside of the saucer attached with a collection label with a Continental coronet above the printed initials E.K. and inscribed 705 in ink.

Lot Essay

François-Marie Barrat (oncle) was a painter of flowers and patterns at Sèvres from 1769 to 1791, and from 1795 to 1796. Jean-Pierre Boulanger was a gilder and painter of paterns at Sèvres from 1754 to 1785.
