A diamond and platinum Imperial presentation brooch
by Fabergé and with the workmaster's mark of August Holmström, St. Petersburg, circa 1890, with scratched inventory number 41547
Formed as a wheat spray, set with old-cut diamonds, marked on pin, in original brown suede fitted presentation case stamped in Russian 'Faberg/ae St. Petersburg Moscow' with the Imperial warrant

Provenance
Presented by the Imperial Cabinet of His Majesty the Emperor Nicholas II to
Debonnaire John, 8th Baron Monson, CVO, JP, Sergeant-at-arms to Queen Victoria, Controller of the Household to Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1896 and thence by descent to
Phyllis Marion Chetwynd
who bequeathed it to the present owner.

Lot Essay

Following the research of our consultant, Valentin Skurlov, we discovered that the present brooch was purchased by the Imperial Cabinet from Fabergé at a cost of 1,000 rubles and presented on July 28 1896 to Baron Monson on behalf of the Emperor Nicholas II.
