An English blue-japanned longcase clock
The breakarch hood with outset columns and glazed side panels, with breakarch trunk door decorated with a print showing courting couples, the plinth with a family scene, the 12in. wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with crossed minute track, silvered centre with engraved subsidiary seconds ring and signed Will.m Johnson/CHESHUNT, blued steel hands, with strike/silent ring to the arch above, the eight day movement with four pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; case third quarter 18th century and redecorated, later dial -- 85in. (216cm.) high
