A George II small ebonised table timepiece with passing strike, circa 1730
The case with replaced brass handle to inverted bell top, with flaming urn finials, pierced frets to the front and rear doors and arched glazed panels to the sides, the 5in. wide brass dial with winged cherub mask spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and diamond half quarter hour markers, matted centre with date aperture, blued steel later hands, signed on a silvered plaque in the arch William/Sellers/London, the eight day single gut fusee movement with five ringed pillars, reconverted verge escapement and now with passing single blow hour strike on bell, the back plate elaborately engraved with foliate scrolls around a basket, secured to the case with a bolt through the lower pillar and turn catches on the dial; with adaptations -- 12¼in. (31cm.) high to fold of handle
