A George II ebonised table timepiece with pull quarter repeat, circa 1730
The case with brass handle to inverted bell top and pineapple finials, with two glazed panels to each side, on bracket feet, with Bacchus mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, matted centre with engraving around the winding hole and signed on an arched reserve James Atfield of/BRENTFORD, the arch above with regulation ring centre by a cut-away star design, with blued steel hands, the eight day single gut fusee movement with five ringed pillars, replaced verge escapement with later apron, pull quarter repeat on two bells, the back plate profusely engraved with foliate scrolls and with repeat signature, secured to the case with a bolt through the lower pillar and with turn catches on the dial -- 17½in. (44.5cm.) high to fold of handle
