A George III black japanned tavern clock, circa 1765
The shield-shaped case with later giltwood finials, the trunk door with coloured print depicting a fisherman offering a salmon to a maiden, within painted floral borders, the underside with further print showing ships at sea, the dial with gilt-painted Roman and Arabic chapter ring, brass hands, signed below George Langford/London, the eight day movement with tapering plates and anchor escapement -- 58in. (147cm.) high
