FIRST EDITION of one of the most beautifully illustrated medical texts. At the age of 22 Mascagni was appointed professor of anatomy at the University of Siena, and later at Pisa and Florence. "Mascagni made several notable discoveries concerning the lymphatics, and this work contains his contribution with reference to the diapedesis of the corpuscles through the wall of the blood vessels in areas of inflammation" (Heirs of Hippocrates).
