BARTHOLOMAEUS DE CHAIMIS (d. c.1496). Confessionale. [Nuremberg: Fratres Eremitarum S. Augustini], 31 May 1480.

Chancery 4° (216 x 155mm). Gothic type in black and red, double column, initials supplied in red and green, capital strokes in citron. (Slight soiling at lower corners, a little marginal worming at end.) Contemporary blindtooled calf over wooden boards, single fore-edge clasp (broken), five bosses and remains of chain-staple on rear cover, citron edges, endleaves with offsetting from an earlier manuscript pastedown (rubbed, lower part of spine cracked, head of spine worn). Provenance: some early marginal annotations -- ownership inscription and ?shelfmark erased from a2 -- shelfmark in ink on a2.

FRESH, WIDE MARGINED COPY. The Augustinians seem to have begun printing at this press in 1479, producing three books in that year. The Confessionale was one of the two books they issued in 1480. H *2485; BMC VII, 1209; GW 6546; Goff B-159.
