GRITSCH, JOHANNES (1408-1475). Quadragesimale. Venice: Lazarus de Soardis, 21 March 1495.
Median 8° (176 x 118mm). Gothic type, two columns, woodcut printer's device at end, initial spaces with printed guide-letters. (Title with old glue marks and marginal repairs, repaired hole in the last two quires affecting some text, occasional light dampstaining or spotting.) Contemporary upper cover of blind-panelled goatskin over wooden boards preserved on a modern calf binding, the panel depicts evangelistic symbols surrounding a knotwork medallion, author's name written on the fore-edge (slightly rubbed). Provenance: contemporary gift inscription from brother Antonius 'Ulixboniensis' to brother Johannes of St. James -- some early annotations -- armorial blindstamp with four fleur-de-lis on first two leaves.
