Lot Essay

Viewed from about the region of Ardgowan Point, the far background shows the west bank of the Firth of Clyde a few miles south of Dunoon. Signed and dated 'R.S. 1820' the panel is numbered 'N. 340' on the reverse. This complies with Salmon's journal, in which number 310 marks the start of 1820 'in Greenock', and number 349 the start of 1821 before leaving for Liverpool the following year.
