An American mahogany 30-hour weight driven shelf clock with wood movement
Invented by Eli Terry, made and sold by Seth Thomas. First half 19th Century
The case with rectangular door, the lower glass reverse-painted with the Wasp and the Reindeer engaging in battle within a gilt border, the cream painted wood dial with painted Roman chapter ring within gilt borders, the centre with a foliate rosette design, gilt cartouche spandrels with pink flowers, the wood movement with five front-pinned straight pillars, anchor escapement and countwheel strike on a large bell above the trade label pasted to the backboard PATENT CLOCKS, INVENTED BY ELI TERRY MADE AND SOLD AT PLYMOTH CONNECTICUT BY SETH THOMAS
