An Italian ebonised fruitwood night clock
Circa 1680
The break-front case with broken architectural pediment, concave-moulded plinth centered by a glazed lentical, the rear of the case cut with a metal-framed chimney to the top, the dial within an elaborate moulded frame, the copper dial painted with a scene from the Anunciation with arched cut-out, the painted revolving disk behind having three pierced Roman chapter discs revolving turning alternatively, the movement with circular brass plates secured by four back-pinned baluster pillars, the going train with gut fusee and barrel, verge escapement with screwed pendulum cock; the inside of the backboard with metal plate and oil lamp tray
