Lot Essay

The 'French' styling and turned features of these chairs compares to models produced by John Gee (d. circa 1824), 'Chairmaker and Turner to His Majesty'. Related models with caned crestrail and ring turned legs and stiles are illustrated C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture: 1700-1840, p. 222, figs. 391-394.
