The American born industrialist and philanthropist, Sir Louis Sterling presented his collection to the University of London, the city where he spent his adult life making a fortune in the gramophone business. Loosely inserted are letters to Hayward from J.P. Pafford, Librarian of the University of London congratulting him on the catalogue, and from Philip Robinson explaining the delay in the binding of the special copies; printed compliments slip from Sir Louis; typed list of 2 additions to the library not in the catalogue; obituary of Sir Louis Sterling cut from The Times, London, 3 June, 1958.
