BAILLY, A.D. -- Catalogue de bons livres. Paris: Didot le Jeune, Mauger & Lejeune, 1800.

8o (205 x 120 mm). Interleaved. Contemporary patterned boards, uncut (covers detached, spine worn). Provenance: A.L. McLaughlin (bookplate).

PRICED in a contemporary hand. Bailly had been head compositor of the printing house of Pierre Didot le Jeune (who printed the catalogue). He had been given copies of the books he had composed by their authors and had benefited from the friendship of Bozérian l'Aîné who had bound for him many volumes. But, being a bibliophile, he also acquired books on his own, resulting in a collection containing "des articles précieux, surtout pour le choix des éditions modernes et la beauté des reliures" (Peignot, p.78). North 405.
