Together 7 parts in 2 volumes, 8o (170 x 107 mm). Engraved folding frontispiece portrait of Ludewig by Joh. Christoph Sysang, dated 1742. Contemporary half vellum and sprinkled boards, (spines with splits and tears).

Sale catalogue comprising 13,476 book lots and 802 lots of manuscripts. An absolutely complete copy of the immensely important sale catalogue of the vast library, of the prolific historian, jurist, and chancellor of the University of Halle, "one of the great collectors and book experts, frequently mentioned in the history of his time who also owned no less than 802 manuscripts, more than thirty of them on vellum" (Handbuch der Bibliothekswissenschaft). The catalogue was compiled by the "famous orientalist, theologian and polyhistor" (ADB) Johann David Michaelis, and features a comprehensive index and a preface by Christian Wolff (1679-1754), the eminent philosopher and Ludewig's successor as chancellor. Taylor correctly describes this as one of the most important German private library catalogues published until then. Buzas, p. 92; Blogie, V, col. 2 (two copies, one lacking frontispiece and section on manuscripts); not in Pollard & Ehrman. -- [Laid in:] Lüderwald's original printed advertisement, dated 1744, for this sale catalogue, 8o.
