Carved on one side with bamboo growing from rocks below a ten-character inscription, the plain reverse carved with three slashes through the russet skin exposing the pale greenish-white stone beneath, with a bullnose perforation at the top for stringing

Lot Essay

The inscription may be read leng zhu feng cheng yun yen shuang jie ting lan, and may be translated, 'Wind blows on a cold day; the bamboo sounds like they are singing, in the evening; winter dew collects on orchids in the courtyard'.
