Signed Tomohisa, Muromachi period (15th century)
The blade hirazukuri, iori-mune; forging pattern itame with mokume large flowing hada, shirake, jinie; the tempered edge midare of nie, kinsuji and tobiyaki; boshi with long returning kaeri and a large patch of jifu; the tang suriage with three holes (two plugged)

Lot Essay

Probably an early fifteenth-century generation Tomohisa of the Uda school. The blade characteristics can be compared with those of the tanto by Kunifusa (see lot 12), and indicate the Yamato-tradition origin of the Uda group.
