The registration document attributes the blade to the Naoe Shizu group. The school was established by pupils of Saburo Kaneuji, who had moved from Soshu to Naoe village in Mino in the fourteenth century. The elegant shape and richness of activity of nie in both ji and ha suggest an early date. Later fifteenth-century pieces tend to exhibit less nie and hamon of gunome with togariba.
