The shape and blade characteristics of this fine old sword indicate Kamakura-period Bizen work. The registration document attributes the blade to Ichimonji Yoshimochi. There are two recorded smiths called Yoshimochi of the Fukuoka Ichimonji school, descended from Sukeyoshi, one active around 1260-70, the other around 1290.
