Edo period (19th century)
The outer case lacquered with a pigeon in soft metal on a branch in silver, brown and red takamaki-e and black hiramaki-e, the reverse with carved red-lacquer leaves, all against a roiro-nuri ground, the inner cases decorated with horses and a pine tree incised on a glossy black-lacquer ground, the interior cases black lacquer; fitted with a cloisonné enamel bead ojime and a negoro lacquer manju netsuke carved with rocks and flowers
