Bokuyo was born in Sakai, Osaka prefecture. He moved to Edo during the Kanbun era (1661-72) and received the title of Hogen. His collection of humorous verses (kyoka), titled Bokuyo kyoka shu, was published during the Enpo era (1673-80).
