This model represents one of the several intermediate stages of the evolution of the classic LNWR Class G 0-8-0 (better known in later years as 'Super D') as it was received by the LMS in 1923 i.e. as a G class rebuild of a former Class B 4-cylinder compound. It was further rebuilt during the 1930s.
