Lot Essay

Recorded in Ramsden's workbooks as 'Jewel Casket, Order 782', this casket was produced for G. W. Poulton of Kettering and finished on 24 April 1922. While Eric Turner suggests, op. cit, that the enamel may be the work of Henri de Koningh, similarities between the enamel on the present lot and that on the Four Seasons or Mother Earth Casket of the same year (lot 47) and the Stella Maris plaque of 1922 (lot 48), would seem to suggest that the enamel on each lot is by the same hand. Further research into the Ramsden's workbooks credits the enamel on both lot 47 and 48 to Jeanne Etève.
