Manufacture of reference 1589 was launched in 1944, the first series with a caliber 12'''120 movement, the second series with caliber 12'''400. It is thought that the present watch is one of only three examples of a second series reference 1589 in pink gold known to date.
The back bears the engraved signature of Josip Broz Tito. He was better known as Marshal Tito and established in 1948 the independence of Yugoslavia from the U.S.S.R.. Tito was also the first President of Yugoslavia from 1953-1980. It appears that he regularly ordered watches at Patek Philippe which were then engraved with his signature and presented as gifts.
