Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with pink dial, enamel hour markers and tachometer scale in 1941 and its subsequent sale on 4 February 1942.

Reference 533 was introduced into the market in 1937 and is distinguished by the elegant look of its Calatrava case with the typical flat bezel.

The present watch combines all aspects of a true collectors watch, the rare combination of a pink gold case and pink dial, the outstanding condition and its freshness to the market.

It is particularly noteworthy that the dial does not have any applied indexes at all; the numerals and scales are in black raised enamel, fully confirmed by Patek Philippe in the Extract. Another highly unusual feature is the double outer graduation for the fifths of the seconds, one for the minute hand and one for the chronograph hand. To the best of our knowledge, the present watch is the only example with such a dial display known to date.

An example of reference 533 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 264.
