Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with cloisonné enamel dial with "Europe-Asia" motif in 1955 and its subsequent sale on 12 January 1956.
It is particularly noteworthy that the present watch was finished in 1955 and immediately delivered to its first owner on 12 January 1956. Whereas many similar unique watches remained on stock for several years, it can be safely assumed that this watch was a special order due to the short period on Patek Philippe's inventory. This fact is furthermore enhanced by the precise and complete description of the enamel dial in Patek Philippe's records.

Reference 2482 was launched in 1950 and remained in production until 1958. To date, only three yellow gold examples of this reference are known to be fitted with a cloisonné enamel dial - two with a tropical scene and the present watch showing the map of Eurasia.

To the best of our knowledge, Patek Philippe only finished two non-complicated cloisonné dial wristwatches showing the map of Eurasia. The other example, a rose gold reference 2481, is permanently exhibited at the prestigious Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva (Inv. P-675).
