A luxurious manuscript on coloured paper with poems in praise of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, decorated with gold and polychrome stencilled silhoutte foliage and other designs. Most of the poems are by Katibi (d.838-9/1434-6), and others are by Awhadi, Shahi, Hafiz, Khwaju, 'Imad and 'Araqi.
Sultan Muhammad (Mehmet) [the Conqueror] ruled between 848-86/1444-81 with an interruption of five years when Sultan Murad ruled.
One of the ghazals begins with the words "Sultan Muhammad son of Murad, the Sunshine of excellence" and another is signed by 'Mahmud'. However, another ghazal is dated 895/1489-90, which must mean that at least part of it could not have been copied for or by Mehmet the Conqueror.
A 16th century seal impression of a certain Reza Quli is on folio 26.
A similar stencil technique- quite possibly using a form of airbrush to achieve the silhouette- is used in the illumination of two folios from a manuscript, thought to be Ottoman, 16th century, one in Landesbibliothek, Essen (Ms orient 21,Bl 158) and Murhadsche Bibliothek, Frankfurt, Bl.254, illustrated in Türkische Kunst und Kultur aus osmanischer Zeit, Part II, Frankfurt, 1985, no. 1/104, p.118.
