London: R. Carr, [c. 1810]. 16mo. (3¾ x 3¼in; 96 x 78mm), 7 + [1]p., 10 woodcut illustrations including title vignette, some contemporary hand-colouring (lower corners a little creased, light soiling), blue calf for Goldman. Provenance: J.W. Goldman (binding and bookplate).

A RARE CHAPBOOK. The last page contains a woodcut of cricket, and below this the simple couplet: "Tis pleasant on a summer's day, To see the Cricketers at play", followed by the letters of the alphabet. Unlike other pages, this page also has typographical borders at head and foot. Other cuts show whip-top, hulla-hoop, shuttlecock, blindman's buff, trap-ball, marbles, cudgels and skipping. The unsophisticated nature of the hand-colouring suggests that it was done by the book's young owner. Goldman p. 182: "a very rare juvenile item"; not in Padwick; not in BL.
