Lot Essay

Blue, Black, Red is an exquisite, small-scale version of a larger painting of the same title that was executed in 1964. That celebrated painting, currently in an important private collection, won the painting prize at the 1964 Pittsburgh International Exhibition of Contemporary Painting and Sculpture at the Carnegie Institute.
