EINSTEIN, Albert. Autograph letter signed ('Papa') to his sons, Hans Albert and Eduard, n.p., n.d. [before April 1920], one page, 4to.

'WRITING IS A GREAT STRUGGLE FOR ME'. Einstein promises a visit to his children in October, when he will bring for Eduard, as a compensation for being the youngest, 'my silver watch, which I have worn for fully 28 years ... Mama must then keep an eye out to see that you don't break it ... If after all you do break it, then I can comfort myself with the saying "Becoming a father isn't hard, but being one definitely is"'. Einstein is now 'working on my Princeton lectures - writing is a great struggle for me. Another time I will think twice before taking on such a responsibility'. The letter ends with holiday projects with the children, promising to 'try to spend as much time with you as is at all possible'.

Einstein lectured at Princeton on the theory of relativity in 1921.
