BOCCACCIO, Giovanni (1313-75). Il Decameron ... riscontrato in Firenze con testi antichi, & alla sua vera lezione ridotto dal caualier Lionardo Saluiati. Venice: Giunti, 1582. 2 parts in one volume, 4° (198 x 140mm), woodcut device on title, numerous fine and large woodcut initials, Salviati's engraved 'approbation' and seal on oo5v, with the final register/colophon leaf (inner margins of quire o wormed with o4 mounted on a guard, some worming in lower margins of quire s, lower blank fore-corner of z1 torn away, title a little soiled, a few light spots and stains). 18th-century Italian vellum, flat spine ruled in gilt (slightly discoloured, a few wormholes in spine). Provenance: Francesco Chiaramonte (17th-century ownership inscription on title) -- 18th-century deleted ownership inscription on title (bought at Bologna in 1727) -- gilt arms at foot of spine -- Leo Olschki, bookseller (his circular ticket at end) -- Thomas Edward Watson (bookplate; by descent to the present owners). First edition with Salviati's notes - the second appeared in Florence in the same year. His engraved approbation is found in only a few copies; in the rest the page is blank.
