Crawford, Washington, D.C., 20 March 1850. 1 page, large folio, ON FINE PARCHMENT, elaborately engraved, accomplished in manuscript, large red papered seal at top left, with the bold heading "The President of the United States" at top beneath which an American Eagle in flight, holding olive branch and lightning bolts with the "E Pluribus Unum" motto; at bottom of the sheet, large vignette of crossed flags, cannons, pikes, bayonets and other military paraphenalia, imprint at bottom right: "Engraved by J.V.N. and C. H. Throop, Washn. City." Taylor and Crawford appoint Nathaniel H. McLean Second Lieutenant in the Second Infantry Regiment.
