1908 ROVER 8HP TWO SEATER
Restoration project
Engine: single cylinder, water-cooled, 4½ x 5 ins. bore and stroke, 1,030cc, mechanical valves, Rover carburettor, coil ignition; Gearbox: three speed and reverse, single-plate clutch, shaft-drive to bevel back axle; steel 'backbone' chassis; Suspension: transverse semi-elliptic spring to the front, semi-elliptic springs to the rear; Brakes: camshaft and rear wheel brakes, wooden artillery wheels. Right hand drive.
Restoration of this car began some years ago but then stalled once much of a new two-seater body had been constructed, although there is a complete original cowled bulkhead/dashboard, bonnet and windscreen. Engine, radiator, gearbox, springs and axles are present and in place, along with the side-levers and steering. The wheels were not on the car when inspected, but these and other spares are understood to be available.
The potential is here to return this car to a practical road-going vehicle, although it will probably take some time to do so.
