The Model Y was the first all European Ford. It was made or assembled at Asnières, Cologne and Trieste as well as at Dagenham. It was also (from late 1935) Britain's first full four seater saloon, retailing at around £100, and the first British car for which a factory exchange engine service was available. This helped sell 157,668 or the original type between 1932 and 1937. The Ford Y Types and "Barrels" as they refer to them, are a particular favourite of the Sharpe family and consequently a handful of examples of varying years were amassed.

There is no documentation to support the age of this car, but its styling puts it to within the first two years of production for the model, when they wore a distinctive tapered radiator grille and strongly raked windscreen.

It is not known when the Sharpe family purchased this Y type, but its storage location places it most probably as a late 1960s acquisition. After many years in a farm barn the condition is much aged and the car must be considered for restoration. It is however, ostensibly complete and would in our opinion represent a sound basis for such a project.
