The famous Seven's fourth generation, prefixed A30, had been launched in 1951 in response to Morris' Minor which, introduced in 1948, had redefined the benchmarks for refinement in the small car market. Initially powered by an 803cc unit (which, ironically, was then lent to the Minor when Austin and Morris merged to form BMC in 1952), over 220,000 A30s had been built before revision and re-release as the A35.
Produced between 1956 and 1959, the A35 was powered by the same A-series engine now grown to 948cc and shared with its Minor 1000 sister. Other revisions included remote control gear-change, front and rear indicators to replace the trafficators used on its predecessor, and, cosmetically, a larger rear window and painted radiator grille slats (instead of chrome). The increase in power was popular with the buying public; a privately-entered A30 had won the Tulip rally in 1956, and the more powerful A35 notched up a number of saloon car racing successes despite being ignored by the official BMC Competitions department. 129,245 units rolled out of the factory before production ended in 1959, superseded by the now legendary Mini.

The car we offer here must surely be among the best-preserved examples to be found anywhere. It was bought by the Sharpes for their collection when only four or five years old, apparently from a local doctor who never managed to pass his driving test, but who covered the 3,000 or so miles practising up and down his driveway. Painted light blue with cream wheels, the car is in very good and very original condition. It even retains the tools and jack supplied when new. The car runs well, and the odometer shows just 3,278 miles. This is yet another time-warp example whose sale represents a rare opportunity for any enthusiast or collector.
