Perhaps, like any child with a desire, I thought that merely by thinking it, it was so. There is one speech in here where the mayor speaks of Los Angeles as a desert. As you know, & I feel, you helped me cross my own desert some time ago -- with love and gratitude, Robt." This screenplay of the 1974 film, directed by Roman Polanksi and starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway, won Towne an Academy Award.
