FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY VOELKER to his cousin Margaret Hay: "For my dimpled cousin, Margaret Hay, who I still see long-legged and in pigtails. Robert Traver (John Voelker) Farmington Jan. 11, 1958." Voelker's novel became the basis of a 1959 movie starring James Stewart, Lee Resnick, and George C. Scott. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards. Voelker, who was a justice of the Supreme Court of Michigan, often wrote under the name Robert Traver.
