A rare French gilt and silvered brass and enamel striking carriage clock in the Egyptian taste
Movement numbered 2435. Circa 1890
The case with silvered handle cast with bearded heads with winged scarabs to their foreheads, the concave-moulded cornices set with silvered winged sun discs, each out-set angle decorated with a silvered Egyptianesque caryatide wearing Nemes headdress and pleated skirt, each with feet resting on further out-set plinths set with bronze plaques engraved with deities, the recessed plinth panels applied with polychrome enamelled plaques emblematic of winged sun-discs flanked by cobra heads, the polychrome enamelled dial with cream chapter ring with stylised numerals and blued steel hands, the spandrels enamelled at the base with sphinxes either side of a jar and at the top with vultures, twin barrel movement with silvered platform lever escapement, hour and half hour strike on a gong on the backplate punch numbered 2435
