An Edwarian bronze striking giant carriage clock with up-and-down reserve
Charles Frodsham, South Molton Street, London. No. 2358. Circa 1915
The bronze-patinated case with with polygonal handle to the glazed top, solid rear door with hand-set and winding shutters, the dial signed Charles Frodsham in a silvered reserve in the engine-turned gilt centre with seconds ring at XII, silvered chapter ring, blued steel hands, conjoining up-and-down ring, within an engine-turned gilt mask, the movement with five double-screwed conical pillars securing the thick spotted brass plates, twin chain fusees, maintaining power, all wheels with six crossings, large gilt platform with free sprung cut bimetallic compensated balance to lever escapement, the contrate pivots with jewelled screwed chatons, the contrate wheel screwed to its collet, hour strike on a blued steel gong on the backplate with strike/silent lever to the top left corner, the backplate signed Chas. Frodsham 27, South Molton St. London W. 2358; together with the original mahogany travelling box
