The substantial case with inverted bell top surmounted by a gilt-brass Martian figure flanked by pineapple finials on pedestals with elaborately pierced brass gallery sound frets, the sides with large brass baluser drop handles with foliate engraved blocks, above carved ebonised wood sound frets, the front door applied with fluted pilasters, the moulded base on large brass bracket feet, the dial signed Godfrie Poy London on a silvered sector in the arch beneath the musical tune selection for A March in Scipio A Minuet The 3 Generals Health/The Spanish Jigg/A Rigadoon/The Hay of Love/On a Bank of Flowers/An Air/Tweed Side/Ormonds Minuet/The British Muses Passanne, the silvered Roman and Arabic chaper ring with elaborate pierced blued steel hands, the matted centre with mock pendulum and calendar apertures, unusual spandrels of a female bust flanked by resplendant eagles, the substantial movement with triple gut fusees and ten pillars securing the thick brass T-shaped movement plates, knife-edge verge escapement, the music playing on thirteen bells via twenty four hammers and a 10¼ in long transverse mounted pin barrel, the backplate symmetrically engraved with foliage and strapwork inhabited with by flanking eagles
