A Queen Anne walnut longcase clock, circa 1710
The hood with glazed side panels and formerly with blind fret panel, later columns, the trunk door with moulded frame and brass-framed lenticle glass, the partially rebuilt plinth on later skirting, the 12 in. square brass dial with engraved border, Indian mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half hour and half quarter hour markers, signed John Shaw Holborn, matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding holes, the square date aperture with hatch-engraved edge and eagle above, original blued steel hands, the eight day movement with five ringed pillars, anchor escapement, strike and trip repeat on bell, later seatboard -- 86¼ in. (219 cm.) high
