A Napoleon III Siena marble, bronze and gilt-bronze mantel clock the rectangular case surmounted by a figure of a classical maiden, possibly a Muse, reclining with an elbow on an orb, a pile of books to the other side, on stepped base with acanthus and anthemion mounts, the dial with gilt-metal chapter ring with black-painted Roman numerals, with inner ring cast with signs of the Zodiac and recessed centre mounted with a star supporting the moon hands, the twin going barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell, stamped on the backplate NO 1699 LEROY & FILS HGERS DU ROI A PARIS -- 23¾in.(60.5cm.) high
