A ship's log for the East Indiaman Marquis of Rockingham
a leather bound log, detailing a voyage made by the Marquis of Rockingham from Wednesday, February 7th 1776 through to Monday, May 26th 1777 when the Marquis of Rockingham ran aground as she was headed to Madras. A detailed account of the off loading of the ship's contents including 23 chests of "treasure", and the rescue by the Nancy, also bound for Madras, and the efforts of other ships and locals in saving the Marquis of Rockingham. The log book is then transferred to the ship Prime, and she continues fro Madras to China, passing Mount Formosa and Barn Island, and then from China back to England via St. Helena, often in the company of other ships, fighting an outbreak of scurvey with a couple of crew members dying just befor reaching the Channel on Wednesday, August 5th 1778. Includes a list of the officers, sailors and passengers on board Marquis of Rockingham
