Edo period (19th century), signed Kajikawa saku and Nobukatsu (for the metalwork) on an inlaid shakudo reserve
Designed in gold takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, kinji and togidashi and soft-metal inlays and kirigane embellishments with courtiers enjoying a poetry party, the floating sake cups of carved red lacquer, the reverse with an attendant retrieving the cups from the stream, interiors nashiji; fitted with a silver and gilt ojime pierce-carved with paulownia and a stag antler kagamibuta netsuke, the metal disc decorated with Morita Endo doing his penance beneath the Nachi waterfall in shakudo and gilt
