The girandoles are designed in the George II 'picturesque' manner, and their vase-capped branches issue from flowered cartouches of Roman acanthus that terminate in water-dripped grottoes. With their pagoda-swept 'umbrellos', they relate in particular to patterns in Thomas Johnson's Collection of Designs, 1758.
