Lot Essay

A slightly smaller yellow-ground blue and white bowl dragon bowl, also dated to the Kangxi period, is illustrated in Treasures in the Royalty: The Official Kiln Porcelain of the Chinese Qing Dynasty, Shanghai, 2003, p. 71. A Qianlong-marked example of similar size, along with a Kangxi-marked bowl of this pattern in blue and white only are illustrated by G. Lang, The Powell-Cotton Collection of Chinese Ceramics, Birchington, 1988, p. 47, nos. 91 and 82 respectively.
A pair of yellow-ground blue dragon bowls of this pattern with Yongzheng marks and of the period was sold in our London rooms, 12 July 2005, lot 155.
